Solar PV module capacity jumps to 213 GW, ministry states

The question asked the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy to state the progress in domestic solar PV manufacturing capacity, the impact of the PLI scheme and ALMM on reducing imports, and measures to develop the solar value chain, particularly in Bihar, Maharashtra, and Gujarat.

What the government said

• Solar PV module manufacturing capacity under ALMM List-I increased from ~22 GW in March 2023 to ~213 GW presently.
• Solar PV cell manufacturing capacity increased from ~13 GW (July 2025) to ~32 GW presently.
• Installed ingot and wafer manufacturing capacity is around 2 GW.
• There is no commercial production of polysilicon in the country at present.
• Solar module imports declined from ~USD 3,363 million in FY 2021-22 to ~USD 994 million in FY 2025-26.
• Letters of Award issued for 48,337 MW of solar PV module manufacturing units under the PLI Scheme.
• Investment of around ₹73,400 crore has been made as on 30.06.2026 by selected manufacturers under the PLI Scheme.
• Gujarat has 110 GW module and 12.5 GW cell capacity; Maharashtra has 12.6 GW module and 0.6 GW cell capacity; Bihar has 0.08 GW module and 0 GW cell capacity.
