No Nalanda revival plan under Ministry of Tourism, answer states

The question asked the Ministry of Tourism to state the current status of the comprehensive development projects for Vishnupad and Mahabodhi Temple corridors in Bihar, as announced in the Union Budget 2024-25, and the status of projects to revive Nalanda University and develop it as a tourist center.

What the government said

• The Ministry of Tourism sanctioned a project for the 'Development of the Buddhist Meditation & Experience Centre' at Bodhgaya for ₹165.44 Crore in March 2025 under the Swadesh Darshan 2.0 scheme.
• The State Government of Bihar sanctioned several projects including: Comprehensive development of Brahmkund area, Rajgir (₹49.87 Crores); Development of Dharmashala at Gaya Ji (₹120.15 Crores); Development of Pathway cum shed building and alternate approach to Vishnupad temple (₹61.96 Crores); Development of Tourist facility at Gurupa Hill (₹9.17 Crores); Development of Replica of 7 wonders of the world in Silaunja Bodhgaya (₹14.85 Crores).
• The State Government of Bihar sanctioned three ropeway projects: Brahmyoni Hill, Gaya Ji (₹8.67 Crores); Dungeshwari Hill, Bodhgaya (₹16.76 Crores); and Pretshila Hill, Gaya Ji (₹10.48 Crores).
• The State Government of Bihar has prepared a Final Comprehensive Destination Strategy and Development Plan for the overall development of Rajgir and Nalanda.
• The Ministry of Tourism stated that there is presently no proposal for the development of Nalanda under its active consideration.
