Logistics Efficiency under PMGS-NMP

What the government said

• Logistics cost in India is estimated at 7.9% of GDP, comparable to advanced economies.
• India’s rank in the World Bank's Logistics Performance Index (LPI) improved to 38th, an advancement of 6 positions.
• 29 States/UTs have formulated Logistics Policies and 32 have granted industry status to the logistics sector.
• 396 infrastructure projects with an estimated cost of ₹18.66 Lakh Crore have been evaluated through the Network Planning Group (NPG).
• Out of 396 evaluated projects, 256 have been sanctioned and 198 are under implementation.
• In the last three years, 1,115 National Highway projects (18,493 km) costing ₹4.75 Lakh Crore were approved, and 32,370 km of NH length was constructed.
• 237 Indian Railways projects (9,703 km) costing approx. ₹1,90,333 Crore were sanctioned in the last three years.
• A study by IIM Bangalore indicates that every one rupee expenditure in National Highways development leads to a ₹3.2 increase in GDP.
