What the government said

• The government is implementing the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSG: MBY) since February 2024.
• The national target is to install rooftop solar systems in one crore residential households by FY 2026–27 with a financial outlay of Rs. 75,021 Crore.
• As of 20.07.2026, 83,906 rooftop solar systems have been installed in Tamil Nadu, benefiting 99,321 households.
• Since the scheme's launch, Rs. 576.66 Crore has been released and 303.63 MW of solar capacity has been installed in Tamil Nadu.
• The scheme is demand-driven and open to all residential consumers with grid connections, including in urban and rural areas.
• Measures include online subsidy disbursement, collateral-free loans at 5.75% interest for 10 years, simplified regulatory approvals (auto load enhancement up to 10 kW), and a grievance redressal mechanism with a call center (15555).
