No in-principle approval for AIIMS in Kerala despite land identified in 2025

The government replied that no in-principle approval has been granted for a new AIIMS in the state.

What the government said

• In-principle approval has not been accorded for setting up AIIMS in Kerala.
• The National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has approved a state branch at Kozhikode to strengthen disease surveillance and outbreak response.
• Upgradation of three Government Medical Colleges (Trivandrum, Alappuzha, Kozhikode) via Super Speciality Blocks has been completed under PMSSY.
• Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST) in Trivandrum was approved for upgradation with a Super Speciality Block.
• The State Government proposed four sites in 2014/2016 and identified land in Kinaloor, Kozhikode in 2025, but the proposal remains unapproved.
